Air-Conditioning Service
Things you might not know about your car & its air-conditioning system
Gas – Your system gradually loses the refrigerant gas at a rate of about 10% per year. This affects the efficiency of the system and will ultimately cause it to cease operating. By having your system recharged, you can keep it running more effectively.
Oil – There is a small quantity of oil carried around the system by the gas called PAG oil. This lubricates the system. Reduced gas means reduced oil and reduced lubrication leading to seal failure. By running your air-conditioning permanently, seals keep lubricated and gas loss is reduced considerably.
Filter – Just like your car engine needs an oil filter to keep the engine oil clean and working properly, your air con system has a filter of sorts called a “receiver drier”. This item should be replaced every 3-4 years. This unit extracts moisture preventing corrosion which can lead to problems with the compressor.
Clean – Have you ever looked at the back of your fridge and seen gunge that collects there? Well the evaporator on your car has the same problem. If not cleaned regularly you get bacteria and mould which creates bad odours in the car and can cause throat or eye irritation. A special anti-bacterial spray is the answer.
